Facebook Apps - A useful tool for successful engagement
Posted on: Feb 28, 2010, at 01:53 AM
Facebook Apps are not widely used by brands in Egypt and the reason for that is the fear of not succeeding in getting Facebook users interest. Brands have been advertising on Facebook, however to most of them the results were not as expected. Some of them see it as a waste of money; others see it as the wrong place to put a banner in a place where your customer is looking for entertainment. The possibility of advertising on Facebook apps lacks awareness in Egypt.
Sarmady has been recently pushing its clients to go for Facebook applications where they can really offer the kind of entertainment their customers are looking for on a platform like Facebook. However, brands have to be very careful when making Facebook applications. Brands have to choose the right time, the right event and the content that allows customers to have a dialogue with the brand.
During the African Cup of Nations, Sarmady has developed a branded Facebook application for its owned brand FilGoal.com. The purpose of the application was to engage FilGoal.com with its fans on Facebook and offer them the chance to easily compete with each other.
The application named "MEEN AGMAD", which means "Who's the Strongest", was a prediction competition for all African Cup of Nations games. There was no incentive for these predictions, however the reason for people to participate was to compete with their friends and express on the wall of the application with funny comments, supporting comments, etc.
The results were impressive especially that no marketing campaign was done to promote it, it was all VIRAL.
Results from (Jan 10th to Jan 31st)
&bull 8,700 active users
&bull 2,000 posts on the Application Wall
