How to spot spam SMS
Posted on: Jan 13, 2010, at 02:11 AM

With the growth of mobile advertising, a lot of companies are tempted to exploit the space by sending spam SMS, similar to what happened with e-mail 10 years ago.

How do you know when you're buying a SMS campaign but not spam (random mobile numbers)?

Here are some guidelines for you to consider before making a SMS campaign:

1. The Official Vodafone SMS can reach up to 270 English characters and 100 Arabic characters, whereas spam SMS can only reach 160 English characters and only 70 Arabic characters.

2. The Official Vodafone SMS only charges delivered SMS whereas spam SMS would charge its clients for undelivered SMS.

3. The Official Vodafone SMS's price for the segmented SMS is not the same as the one for non-segmented SMS.

4. The Official Vodafone SMS is the ONLY way to query Vodafone's extensive data warehouse.

5. Spam SMS campaigns will not give customers the ability to OPT-OUT if they wish to do so.

Advertisers should be aware that spamming only leads to one outcome, harming their own brand. Thus, the ability of OPTING-OUT is crucial.

Owned by Vodafone since 2008, Sarmady is the digital arm of Vodafone Egypt and the only entity offering the Official Vodafone SMS advertising service.
